| I am a physician,(male) and I am practicing from last 30 years. Among my patients, urinary tract infections(UTI) are more seen in ladies wearing panties. in early years of my practice, most of the hindu women used onnara and UTI was rare then. Now due to churidar use most of them are using panties, and many are developing UTI, the reasons are 1.Only a small peice of cloth, banian type is covering the area will become wet and chances of infection are more.2.Wearing churidar will not allow natural ventilation of the area and wetness will increase.3.Most of the working ladies are reluctant to drink water, so urine volume reduces and this also perpetuates UTI. 4.Many ladies use foreign panties made of synthetic materials which are not absorbant and it also aggravates chances of UTI.5.Many do not change panties frequently. Now many college going teen agers also develop UTI. wearing tight pants and leggings also contribute.During my medical college days one of my teacher in gynaecology was insisting ladies to wear onnara, instead of panties and she teach them and explained its benefits like reduction of UTI and prevention of prolapse uterus.Now I have seen some ladies wearing churidar,wearing onnara underneath the loose type churidars.Churidar wearers if want to wear onnara, they can have it by using loose legged churidars made of thick cotton and I have seen now.I also insist to wear onnara to my patients coming with UTI. So it can be seen that apart from aesthetic point of view, onnara is also a healthy lingerie to prevent diseases, especially, prolapse of uterus.I feel that an intensive campaign is needed to bring back onnara among ladies |
