 I have just come across a Forum,  where lot of opinions and suggestions (discussions !) on ONNARA takes place.

However, I am reproducing the text { Hope the authors would not object for copying their text !! ).  Here goes the discussions ...


If you are a married man ask your wife to wear onnaramundu as very tight thar for atleast 6 months. Naturally you can get very big size buttocks. Tharudutha pennungalude chanthi valuthayirikkum. Onnaramundu onnu try cheyyu.

Very correct guest; I am compelled to wear onnaramundu and is having very good buttocks. So anybody wants very good shaped buttocks, tie onnaramundu thar very tightly always. Within few days you can find out the differences of your buttocks. First few days there will be little difficulty in walking, sitting etc. but shortly all difficulties will disappear and after continuously wearing onnara, you cannot go out without it. By wearing onnara tightly you can control your 'kamavikaras' to an extent.

Respected friends,I am a lady scool teacher from a rural area in middle Kerala who has been tucking in ONNARA as undie since my high scool days;soon after attaining puberty.



All buttocks loving friends, I got married (arranged marriage) about 3 years back and presently staying in Mumbai. My hus is onnara loving person. Very first day onwards he insisted me to tie it. But our community customs does not allow to use it. However in my college days in a Thiruvathirakali I used onnara as untie and got little experience in wearing it. He immediately insisted me to use it regularly and purchased small size mulmul mundu and continuously I am using inside our flat. While going out I will use panties. But wearing onnaramaundu is a pleasure. My hus will not touch me when I am in panties. But after seeing onnara in tight thar, we are enjoying a lot. With onnaramundu wearing continuously increased my buttocks shape a lot. Even some of my close friends are started using this inside saree and all of their husbands are very much happy to see it. It is a common subject in the church now a days. Onnarmundu is not only for Nair girls, but there is no caste or community for wearing it. Those who want to get good buttocks use onnaramundu continuously. Young married girls try it and enjoy the pleasure in life. 100% husbands will enjoy the pleasure of onnaramundu.


Let me note my experience with onnara-my marriage was in late 70s;at the age of 18.At that time the practice of wearing onnara was slowly diminishing with the introduction of shuddy.Belonging to a traditional family,I had unergone the onnaraudippikkal ceremony during thirandukalyanam rituals.Anyhow I used to wear drawers made of pure white mallu as my mom and aunt insisted to use white cloth as undie owing to their belief.When I reached my husband"s house,I was surprised to see that all the women there including his school going younger sisters were regularly wearing onnara as innercloth.My mother-in-law who was working as supervisory nurse in a hospital was a mature lady having pleasant manners.Though I was not tucking in onnara as they all do,she was happy to observe that I am tucking in the old type home made cotton cloth during menstruation.She instructed me how to wear onnara and pointed out the significance of onnaramundu as a truly protective,safe,hygenic and ritual undercloth for women of all ages;further she mentioned onnara has been recommended by lady gyenocologists as it prevents the possibility of prolapse uterus among youngsters.According to her knowledge, many lady physiciance were using onnara at that time.And during the immemorable honeymoon days my beloved hus added the erotic element of onnara;there after I am wearing onnara as my favorite undie-to conclude onnara is also advisable to control our unecessary passions.I request the respected lady friends to comment more on onnara based on thier experiences and memoirs.....


Dear Uma madam, exactly correct what you mentioned above. Onnaramundu is the only best undergarment for girls irrespective of their caste and age. I am wearing onnaramundu since the age of 10. Even today also there is a function among nair families of 'Kodi uduppikkal' to girls at the age of 8 of 10. But the function will end itself after once uduppikkal is over, as most of the girls are too small and going to schools. Even middle aged mothers are not wearing onnara continuously today. Some are using while entering temples or other ritual purposes only. As somebody mentioned earlier, with the compulsion of their husbands, some ladies are still using onnaramundu. There are somany advantages of wearing onnara. Girls especially at their grown up stage must wear onnaramundu (even small sized mundu will serve the purpose) as thar, so that their body shape will become beautiful. My husband says that he loves onnaramundu and before any raasaleela he must have the hot smell of it. No other perfume can compare with onnaramundu smell, as he says. So I request all married girls must wear onnaramundu and see the difference.


During my highschool days I was compelled to tuck in onnara as innercloth by observing that my onnara wearing classmates had well-shaped buttocks like a typical VEENAKKUDAM.



In 1980s I was doing B.A. at Nirmala college at Trichur. At that time uniform was saree for degree level. Most of the girls were wearing panties as undergarment, but we few students, belonging from very old nair families were tying onnaramundu instead of panties. In our family it is compulsory to wear onnara. At that time most of the girls were having very good shaped buttocks, especially for onnara wearers. Some of our friends, after knowing this, will rub our buttocks over saree and some naughty girls will remove our Onnarakuthu (madi thala wal) from back side over our sarees. When the tightness goes, we will be very much afraid, because there is every chance of removal of onnara. Immediately we will try to insert our fingers from back and tighten the onnarawal, or places. Onnaramundu is my favourite undergarment.immediately goes to the toilet and tie it properly. When going back to home immediately some girls do this activities. So we will tightly tie our onnara and use some safety pins to have a safer journey. Once we have a picnic to Madurai & Palani, where some malayali college boys tried to remove our onnara, by touching our buttocks. Anyhow by wearing onnaramundu we can make our buttocks like Veenakudam. Now Veenakudams are not visible. Very few are using this undergarment. Still I am using onnara and my husband is very much happy with onnara. Occasionally I use panties, while entering in crowded places.


Kamalam madom"s post above was very interesting to read;CONGRATS!I am a middle aged housewife from Valluvanadan area.On the first night after my marriage my hus was surprised to see a tucked in onnara(with kasavukara)under my skirt while he was hastily removing my clothes with a passion to do something....His first remarks was on my expertise in covering the most sought after parts of my body with that fascinating onnaramundu.Ever since he insisted me to continuously wear onnara to boost his desires and passions.I had started weraing onnara even before attaning puberty and it was customary for us to get trained by elder ladies to tuck in onnara at the age of 11.And there was a belief that the first menstrual flow should be seen in a pure white undercloth;thus we tied small size onnara made of too soft malmalmundu before the start of theendari.Even now all the women in our family use onnara as lingerie.


During my childhood days I had my school education in a true village area where my ancestors were staying in a tharavadu.My parents were staying in Bombay as my father was employed there;and I was under the care of my grandma and cheriyamma.In the tharavadu premises there was a sarpakkavu where we lit the traditional lamp during sandhya everyday;it was a customary ritual being followed for generations.Cheriyamma who was in mid 30s was in charge of preserving the custom.Though she was normally wearing cotton sari,after bath in the evening she wud tightly wear an onnaramundu and white mundu over onnara;bra and jacket for the upper part and go to the kavu by observing necessary sudha for lighting the lamp.During masamura period,she will be staying in an outhouse for 7 days observing the conventional theendari sudhi.On those days I had to keep the ritual at sarpakkavu;and I was in the 5th standard-aged 10.After bath in the evening I was wearing only a pettycoat and knickers made of white cotton cloth as undie.While entering the kavu,cheriyamma insisted me to remove the knickers and to tie a tight konakam instead.According to her, it was a sacred place where we should enter either with onnara or konakam(for kids)as the priests irrespective of their age tie konakam as innercloth and thattu above that on special occasions.By attaining the age of 11 I had to undergo a ganapathyuduppikkal ceremony led by a group of elderly women from my tharavadu and the neighbourhood where I was learnt to tuck in onnara before the traditional lamp.Anyhow now I am having a well-shaped buttock and a narrow waist(thudiyidayara as it is literally termed) which is apreciated by ecerybody.Some rituals and customs are good for health and beauty as onnara helps women to shape their buts.



I am belongs to a Malabar Christian family and married to a person of the the same cast and were staying at Pune. After seeing the movie Parinayam in a theatre at Pune, my hus asked me to become as Mohini and wear onnaramundu as untie, and brought a pair of nice mulmul mundu from a shop here. Even I am not at all aware of how to wear it, he helped a bit and tried to tied it, with the help of safety pins and knots. First few days, I was not able to walk, sit properly and some itching when the mundu becomes wet. However, since we are alone in our flat only with onnaramundu and a bra I was doing all the house hold works in the kitchen and even while going out also I have to wear it compulsory under my adipavada, as my hus will check it while we are going out. At that time I used to wear atleast two adipavadas to escape the bow and tuck of onnaramundu to others. For few months I felt very unconfort by wearing it. My husband always praising about my round shaped buttocks by wearing onnaramundu. Actually he was keeping his face on my buttocks over the tight tharmundu while sleeping for the whole night for years together. Still now also he wants to have such facilities for sleeping even when we visits our native place. Now I do not have any problem for wearing onnara and even by my appearance, all will be seeing me as a nair lady (as occasionally I am using chandakuri over my forehead). He wants to have the smell of chandanam alongwith onnara and treat me as a pure nambudiri girl (like mohini). Any how I got very good shape of my wasteline, and buttocks with the help of onnaramundu.



I was the most indisciplined girl of my family in my high school days.On starting mensus almost 30 yrs. back I was in the 9th standard.Wearing the undesirable tharthorthu(we used to wear chuttythorth as thar that time)and putting the cotton pads made of old mundus and tying the konakam during menstruation added worry to the routine homeworks of tough maths classes.Without intimating mother I replaced shuddy in place of onnara many days and openly tucked in onnara while going to temples or attending religious functions to convince others.On that days I was watching our fellow boys and doing fantasies with them.When I am reaching to the peak mood,I may set apart my legs,remove the shuddy and put the one thigh on the other.This tendency continued and I was caught by my ma one day.On seeing me without any undie and in an undesirable mood she was tense and violent.She caned me many times for the wrong doings but the misdoings continued.Finally she decided firmly to stop the same and I was compelled to wear onnara regularly and my studies were discontinued for a week.During those days I had to compulsorily tuck in a wet onnaramundu tighly under the petty coat and skirts twice a day ie during morning and evening ;and I had to accompany her to the temple with prayers to control my unnecessary passions.There after on regularly wearing onnara I cud concentrate on my studies as a tighly worn onnara suppresses the clitoris erection during undesirable passions.To my opinion,onnara is the most suitable undercloth;a buttock-shaper and regulator of our passions.Whenever I have such emotions I will pull out the onnarawal out from the backside and tuck in it firmly as a precaution.


Dear friends,this is an office onnara memoir.My office supdt.was a 40 yrs. old lady;fair,lovely and godfearing but a strict disciplinarian with regard to duties.She was respected by all-especially by the younger male subordinates and we observed that those payyans had a true passion to her fascinating buts.The supdt. madam had a soft-corner to me as I was the only lady staff wearing saree;all other female staff were in churidhar.The madam was coming to office on time after the routine worship in the nearby temple.And she never selected a polyester saree but always preferred to wear pure cotton sarees.During festive seasons,I often accompanied her to select dresses.While I was eagerly selecting black brassiers and colourful panties,she preferred only white bras and I had never seen her puchasing any panty.The very rhythmic movement of her fine buts from rear view was a truly intoxicating scene even for ladies!One evening,I had to remind her on an urgent office matter to be executed the next day;for that the Jr. supdt.entrusted me to meet her personally on the same day itself.I went to her hostel and the matron permitted me to enter her room upstairs.The door of the room was half-open and supdt. madam was removing her dresses before bathing.On entering the room,I was surprised to see her half-nude with a tight bra and a tucked in onnara .Her onnara had a coffee-brown kara drapping her fleshy thighs and the huge well-shaped buts to excite anybody happens to watch it.On seeing me,she pulled down her onnarawal and tried in vain to cover her mulas with hands.In a shameful tone she told me onnara is her customary undie and she never used panties in her life.I cud detect the very secret of her fascinating buts then only and understood the true secret of a well shaped buttocks-nothing but the regular use of onnaramundu right from the early ages.Thus a casual visit to my superior's private room tempted me to abandon the modern lingerie and to tuck in onnara as a routine innercloth;by degrees,I am shaping my buts with the help of that wonderful piece of cloth-ONNARA!

I would like to share some of my memories and experiences of onnarayudukkal. At the age of about 10 there is a function in our area of onnarayuduppikkal (Ganapathikkidal) during the month of Chingom. After bath in temple pond and reaching home (we myself (10 years and my elder sister & one step sister (about 12 years old) elder women like grandmas or cheriyammas etc will remove our knickers and the black cotton thread (for using konakam under knicker, while entering in temples) from our waste. And start to tie the onnara (first time only full length onnaramundu 6 x 3 metre Mulmul mundu in size) will be used to tie it. Cheriyamma helped me to tie the onnara with very simple method of using madi thar. By madithala of onnaramundu, inserted through our legs and tied in the back tightly. Since we are very small and the large size of mundu, imagine the problems at that time. After tying with such onnaramundu only (no other clothes) we have to sit before a lightening nilavilakku and certain poojas with rice, paddy, thulasiyila, coconut, Appam, Ada etc. to the Nilavilakku (treating as Ganapathi bhagavan) will be conducted for 10-15 minutes by elder ladies. This function will be watched many relatives including young boys. After that function, grandma & cheriyamma took us to a closed room and removed the onnaramundu and gave another small size mundu (thorthmundu) and asked us to tie it and helped us to do properly. With only a very small thar all the womens in the house and close relatives will come to the room and watch our thar and put some kind comments like beautiful, very beautiful, or some more tightness is required and they removed the tharwal from back and tied it again. From that day onwards, we have to use mundu only and no girl will be allowed to use old knickers or panties. While going to schools at the small age, we don’t have any shame to tie it even in the class rooms. After walking few steps, the tightness will loose and immediately we will catch the tharwal and tighten it. After few months I have got very good experience to tie an onnara. During college days, cheriyamma taught me to tie another type of thar using one side of the mundu, not the madi, as has been done my majority girls. This type of thar is being used only by Nambudiri girls. This is the best thar compared to the madi thar. Any major ladies who are very much conversant this type may give their comments & experiences of such thar. From college levels onwards following this method and still I am continuing the same type thar. My two sisters are not much conversant with this type because it will take little more time than madi thar. By using this ‘njori thar” tightly, any type of itching and ejections can be prevented by pulling the thar wall from back and by maximum tightening. I am having several experiences with onnara. Anyway onnara is the best undergarment for women of any age.



Let me add some comments on the valuable remarks on onnara as posted by Mrs.Sreeja above.The type of thar Sreeja mentioned is widely tied by ladies of Malabar egion mostly.Madi is not being passed between the legs in this method,and the inner konthala val of the large size onnaramundu(of 6 muzham length and 2 or 2.5 muzham width)is used for tucking in at the back.While tying the mundu around the waist,the inner konthal is kept hanging so as it reaches below the knees.After that, a fine triangular tuck(njori)is made by adjusting and putting one corner of the innerkonthalaval on the right tuck of the mundu.Finally,the legs are set apart,inner konthalaval is passed between the legs and tucked in tightly at the back.The most advantageous feature of this type of onnara is that the triangular njori serves to be a thick pad covering the yoni so as to absorb any discharges-even a strong menstrual flow could be absorbed by it!It is bit difficult to practise and not easy as the videly used madithar;and this method needs a thorough trainig to follow and quite unknown to the ladies of erstwhile Cochin and Travancore area.As Sreeja mentioned,it might be widely used by Nambudiri girls;but it is known to be used by women of all castes in Malabar.I came to observe that many lady school teachers and working girls of that region still prefer it to be the most advisable method of thar besides hundreds of rural housewives.Any further comments are expected from the respected and too knowledgiable elders on this topic.



To suplement on the notes of njori thar above,I have to mention that we- the girls of South Malabar area were subject to the the introductory onnara uduppikkal ceremony at odd ages-at 9th,11th and to the maximum 13th age before attaining mensus in 1970s.The function was held normally during Onam Uthradam,Thiruvathira(in Dhanumasa)and widely on the Thiruvonam nal during Thulamasa.The onnara practising girls were taught to follow "Kudukkittudukkuka" method of njori thar to avoid the probable loosening of the thar and to make a knot at the end of the njori thar val for safety.This type of thar is tied mostly by the labourclass women who perform hard manual agrarian jobs.


The njori-thar is favoured by many as the front portion of the feminine body from waist to the knees are almost fully covered and only the rear tucked in view is arousing.But in madithar,a portion of the inner thighs are seen naked and the triangular yoni part eppears to be vulgar.The college-going girls who use sari prefer to tuck in njori-thar as innercloth;but a few girls are interested in the continous use of this type of onnara as it is too difficult to wear.

From the above even leaners can easily understand how to tie njori thar. Most ladies are interested to use Madi thar, as it is very easy and more convenient thar njori thar. I am sorry that I missed your blog for last one year. But I am catching up and thank you for all the excellent posts on Onnara. Very informative and with a lot of participation from readers. It shows that Onnara and Konakam are etched in the Malayalee psyche and have a good future. I am sure the popularity of onnara will increase. And your blog can take a lot of credit for its increased use and awareness.

But I feel that in the case of some posts the same person is posting under different female names. I have this doubt because the posts only sing the virtue of onnara and sex appeal in very similar manner without adding any info. Moreover the use of certain English and Malayalam words and style is also a clue. If such people should stop doing this as we like to see comments of genuine readers and onnara wearers.

The njori thar methods mentioned in many posts are not clear to me (although I can also follow Malayalam in English script). Could you make another attmpt in English for my sake?

I also request youto provide a brief English version of what is written in the Cheria Cheriya kariyangal blog about onnara. I will be really looking forward to it and many others who cannot read Malayalam will appreciate it.

Coming to the Avalude raavukal link, I remember that Sujatha (who sadly passed way last wek) appeared in onnara in the movie Brasht. Also in around 1975 an actress called Jaya.... (can not remember the second part of the name) appeared in a film in onnara. Can you get those clips and post here?
