Dear anonymous,
It's nice to have someone enjoying the spirit of thaar. Please leave a word with all your e-friends about this.
Regarding the custom of wearing the thaar, let me tell you the following facts.
The younger generation is not aware or favouring the thaar as an undie.
Modern women may not like it's complex nature ( it's inconvenient, as they say or think).
This is certainly the traditional undie for Hindu ladies, particularly the Nair and Nampoothiri sects.
This is not popular in the south most part of Kerala. Its very popular from central travancore and towards north of Kerala.
Even now, many Nair families, not bitten by the most modern trends, have this.
Traditionally wearing a thaar is a must when entering a temple. And that's how thaar has a religious aspect, followed even now. Many ladies and girls (who normally use panties) wear a thaar, for temples and other auspicious occassions.
That doesn't mean that all sari wearing ladies in the temple have thaar.
If you are interested, look at them while in the temple premises (not in city area, in some interior temples.). You can certainly see them at Guruvayoor.

Your request for a snap of sari with onnarathumpu ! I am afraid, I don't have any with me right now. I shall try my best to quench your thirst !

Dear Sir,while thankfully acknowledging yr timely response, let me comment that yr description was an authentic note on the social and cultural aspects of thar!CONGRATS!I shall definitely inform my friends;especially ladies to visit yr blog and post comments;hope from the next week onwards they may start. One of my aunts is expected to wear this traditional undie;once I have watched it.Sir it is heard that women of some areas prefer to wear thar during THIRUVATHIRA CELEBRATIONS....in this context we request yourself and yr.favourite UMA MADAM to post a suitable thar memoir with pics ,if any, to satisfy our passions on onnara. My wife is reluctant to wear thar and she often terms it as a primitive undercloth. But her mom wears it as and when she goes to temple,as yu mentioned.....Yr friend with regards and THIRUVATHIRA GREETINGS!
